A central piece in the women's wardrobe, this straight-cut dress is made from hand-woven Galafini, an indigo cotton textile from West African textile traditions.
The cut is straight. Unfitted. Fluid. It drapes the body without restricting it and suits many body types. This *straight cut* silhouette, with its balanced look, allows for comfortable wear both daily and for dressier occasions.
The length has been designed for great versatility. Two side pockets are discreetly integrated. The dress can be worn freely or belted. The round, slit, slightly scooped neckline at the back brings a sober and controlled femininity.
Fully lined in cotton, this artisanal indigo dress can be worn in warm seasons as well as in cooler periods, layered.
Each piece is made from assembled strips of Galafini. Patterns may vary slightly depending on the fabric's cutting area. This variation is an integral part of the artisanal work and makes each dress unique.

Galafini, West African Indigo Textile
Galafini is a handwoven indigo cotton fabric, woven on traditional wooden looms and then dyed using ancient plant-based processes relying on the fermentation and oxidation of local dye plants.
These dyeing techniques have been attested for centuries in West Africa, particularly in Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Benin, and Nigeria. Indigo-dyed textile fragments have also been unearthed in ancient archaeological contexts, testifying to the historical depth of these skills.
Unlike many contemporary industrial indigo fabrics, the Galafini used here comes entirely from an artisanal process: hand-woven cotton, manually assembled strips, traditional vegetable dyeing.
Fabric Origin
- Country: Mali
- Cultural area: Bamanan
- Materials: cotton and plant pigments
Each Galafini is different. The repetition of subtle patterns, the regularity of the weave, and the depth of the indigo blue make this textile a unique piece.
Textile Layering
This straight dress can be worn alone or combined with a bogolan kimono or a layering textile piece, to play with materials, volumes, and seasons, without altering the clarity of the cut.
About Kaolack Créations

Artisanal weaving is, by nature, a slow and non-standardized process. It produces durable textiles, respectful of the material and human rhythms.
