Sophisticated and versatile men's set composed of four pieces made of cotton and artisanal bogolan from Mali. Designed to adapt to different contexts, from daily life to more formal events, this set combines contemporary refinement and traditional craftsmanship. Wear the complete set with the vest and hat for a ceremonial look, or opt for the kaftan and trousers alone for a more casual style.
The Black Cotton Poplin Kaftan
Long-sleeved kaftan in 100% plain black cotton poplin, medium length. Finishing details in white bogolan with black patterns at the collar. Central button placket with 2 invisible snap fasteners for discreet closure. Two side slits for optimal freedom of movement. Straight and fluid cut that can be worn alone for a casual look or layered with the vest for a sophisticated allure.
The Black Straight-Leg Trousers
Straight-leg trousers in 100% plain black cotton poplin, classic and comfortable fit. Waistband with belt loops and elastic at the back for a perfect fit. Two functional side pockets. Can be worn with the kaftan and vest for a complete set, or separately for everyday wear.
The White Bogolan Vest from Mali
Large mid-sleeved vest in authentic bogolan hand-woven and dyed in Mali. Ecru white background adorned with traditional black geometric patterns. Length below the knee (approximately 95-100 cm for a person of 1.92 m). The mid-length sleeves of the vest allow the long sleeves of the kaftan to show through, creating a chic and contemporary layered effect. Loose and fluid cut. The centerpiece of the set that brings character and authenticity. One size fits all: loose fit on M/L sizes, more oversized cut on slimmer figures.
The Matching Bogolan Hat
Traditional hat made from the same white bogolan with black patterns as the vest, for perfect harmony. Available in two sizes (M/L or L/XL depending on the selected variant). Elegantly completes the set.

Why "Kaarta"?
The name Kaarta refers to the Kaarta Empire, a pre-colonial Bamanan (Bambara) kingdom founded in the 17th century in western present-day Mali, whose capital was Nioro du Sahel. A warrior and structured state, Kaarta controlled major trade routes in the Sahel and asserted a strong political identity long before European colonization.
We chose this name for our bogolan line from Mali because it evokes this period of autonomy, power, and sovereign African organization. Bogolan, a textile of the Bamanan, belongs to the same Manding cultural area as Kaarta. Associating it with this name is a reminder that these textile skills existed and prospered in already constituted, hierarchical, and influential African societies.
Wearing the Kaarta set means asserting a contemporary elegance rooted in a pre-colonial memory. A modern silhouette. A proud historical reference.
Versatility and Wearing Occasions
This 4-piece set offers great versatility. Wear the complete set (kaftan, trousers, vest, and hat) for ceremonies, weddings, and formal events. For a more casual everyday style, the kaftan and trousers can be worn separately, with or without the vest, for a refined and relaxed contemporary African fashion look.
Care Instructions
Black kaftan and trousers: machine wash at maximum 30°C. Bogolan vest and hat: strictly cold wash, even in machine, to preserve the quality of the artisanal textile. Dry flat in the shade. Iron at medium temperature on the reverse side.
