Bogolan: material, symbolism and heritage

Bogolan is an emblem of African textile: woven cotton, oxidation dyeing from mud and vegetable pigments, drying and washing according to a patient protocol. The patterns (signs & geometries) form a true visual language: wearing bogolan means embracing a style and a history, at the heart of today's African fashion.

Cut & style

  • Modern and unisex cut, comfortable ease.
  • Structured shoulders, clean drape, strong visual presence.
  • Can be worn open, belted or zipped depending on the version (see visuals).

  • Hand wash or cold delicate cycle.
  • Natural air drying, in the shade.
  • Gentle ironing on the reverse side.

Kaolack Créations

We collaborate directly with Malian and West African weavers to source authentic bogolan. The garments are then designed and sewn by our African artisan tailors. An ethical and demanding approach in service of a singular and sustainable African fashion.
