Under the shoulder, the fabric naturally finds its place.

The bogolan, crafted by a Bamanan artisan from Mali, plays on a clear contrast between the dark background and the off-white patterns, creating a highly graphic, immediately recognizable surface.

This light bogolan offers a precise balance: flexible enough to move with you, structured enough to hold its shape.

Available in 3 artisanal versions: each hobo bag shares the same elegant shape, but is distinguished by its unique bogolan patterns and, for one of them, by its warm ocher/brown color. The other two versions feature black and white geometric patterns, each with its own traditional Bamanan graphic design.

About bogolan

Bogolan is a cotton fabric grown, spun, and woven by hand in West Africa, particularly in regions corresponding today to Mali, Burkina Faso, and Côte d'Ivoire, long before colonial borders were drawn.

It is then decorated using a traditional technique involving applying natural pigments, notably fermented mud, to the fabric surface.

This process gives rise to contrasting and immediately recognizable patterns, stemming from know-how shared by various peoples in the region.

Bogolan is now recognized worldwide for its graphic strength and unique visual identity.

Worn & use

The strap ensures comfortable shoulder wear.

Thanks to its large capacity, the bag can be used as an everyday tote bag.

Carried by hand, with the strap wrapped around the wrist, it transforms into a more structured handbag.

This dual function allows for a natural transition from practical use to a more dressed-up look, without changing bags.

Interior details & proportions

The interior is lined with soft cotton. A large patch pocket helps organize the contents. The wide snap button secures the opening without weighing down the bag.

The proportions remain harmonious: approximately 40 cm in width, 32 cm in height, 12 cm in depth, with a strap that allows for both hand and shoulder wear.

The light bogolan maintains a pleasant hold for everyday use. It accompanies the rhythm of the day, and brings that textile detail that transforms a simple silhouette without overloading it.

Why this bag appeals

It remains flexible without sagging. It accompanies the day without becoming cumbersome. It brings that textile touch that completes a simple outfit.

And above all, it offers two distinct ways to wear: shoulder for freedom, hand for style. This versatility makes this bogolan hobo bag a reliable, practical, and elegant choice.

The hobo shape, soft and generous, is making a strong comeback: it adds style without rigidity, and leaves room.

As each piece is handmade, the patterns may vary slightly from one bag to another, testifying to the authenticity of the Bamanan manual work.
