Bogolan is a cotton fabric grown, spun, and woven by hand in West Africa, particularly in regions corresponding today to Mali, Burkina Faso, and Côte d'Ivoire, long before the drawing of colonial borders.
It is then decorated using a traditional technique consisting of applying natural pigments, notably made from fermented mud, to the surface of the fabric.
This process gives rise to contrasting and immediately recognizable patterns, stemming from know-how shared by different peoples of the region.
Bogolan is now recognized worldwide for its graphic strength and unique visual identity.
