Collection: Clothing by Kaolack Créations

Woven and dyed loincloths, the true African fabric

The colorful cotton fabrics widely used in Africa and falsely called "African fabric" are absolutely not African, neither in their aesthetics nor in their manufacturing. These are industrial productions made outside Africa and imposed during colonization, to the detriment of textile traditions and local economies.

All clothes offered by Kaolack Créations are made from loincloths woven by hand on wooden looms and according to ancestral African traditions. The manufacturing of a loincloth represents days of meticulous work and exceptional know-how, an inheritance of a specific cultural heritage.

The sewing is done by African and Afro-descendant Tailors and Seamstresses who can be found in the Directory: https://annuaire-couturiers.fr/

The patterns of woven and dyed loincloths, whether Bogolan, Manjak loincloth, Kente, Kita, Serer or Baoulé loincloth... have a precise meaning in a traditional context.

Some pieces are in Batik (Tie and Dye).

What is Batik? It is a fabric dyeing technique carried out by African artisans who are custodians of this centuries-old know-how. The artisans create patterns on a piece of white cotton and protect the areas not to be dyed with wax. The colors are successively applied by dipping.
